8000 cyclotourists ride in the tenth edition of the Mallorca 312 – Giant - Taiwan

The tenth edition of the Mallorca 312 – Giant – Taiwan commenced at 7am in front of the Playa de Muro Hotel Association. Heading the 8000-member peloton was bib 312 wearer and honouree, Alberto Contador, along with the illustrious: Miguel Indurain, Sean Kelly, Pedro Horrillo, Joseba Beloki, Oscar Pereiro, Oscar Freire and Ivan Basso. Not wanting to miss out on the event, professional cyclists Albert Torres and German Kastusha team member, Rick Zabel, were also present. All the participants are currently riding through the island’s roads until they complete a distance of 167, 225 or 312 kilometres.

Before the start, Alberto Contador said of the Mallorca 312 – Giant – Taiwan, “the atmosphere is so special, it’s a real party and it’s so exciting to see these many cyclists riding around the island on roads that are not only tough, but also have spectacular landscapes”.

The first cyclotourist to complete the 167 kilometres of the Mallorca 167 - Goldcar was German rider Philipp Schulze with a total time of four hours and thirty-three minutes, while Spanish rider Yessica Pérez was the first woman, with a time of five hours and six minutes. For both riders, this was their first time participating in the race.

There are many cyclists who have yet to complete the tenth edition of the Mallorca 312 – Giant – Taiwan challenge. From 9pm onwards, once the last rider has crossed the finish-line, the final party will begin in the tent, and participants will be able to enjoy themselves and celebrate the success of their Mallorca 312.
