The presentation of the ninth edition of the Mallorca 312 – Giant – Taiwan was held this morning. The event took place at the Palma Bureau of Vice-presidency, Innovation, Research and Tourism in the presence of Jaume Alzamora, the manager of the ATB (Agency for Tourism of the Balearic Islands), Xisco Lliteras, the director of Mallorca 312, Miquel Alzamora, the technical director, and this edition’s honouree, ex-professional cyclist Joaquim Rodríguez. Also in attendance were Lluís Más, the Majorcan cyclist, as well as ex-professional cyclists Pedro Horrillo and Joseba Beloki.
The Mallorca 312 – Giant – Taiwan cyclosportive will take place on Saturday, the 28th of April and will feature 8000 participants, 15% more than in 2017, from 59 countries worldwide. This event has earned a position among the best national and international cyclosportives, as reflected in the fact that this year’s edition will feature 29 accredited international media. The event is expected to have an economic impact of 16 million euros on the island in 2018.
Jaume Alzamora highlighted the importance of the Mallorca 312 – Giant – Taiwan as a different kind of tourism proposal, “not during high-season, and one that respects the environment, which is an important reason to support the event”.
Xisco Lliteras, the director of Mallorca 312, mentioned the increase in the number of cycling licence-holders and clubs on the island, “the cyclosportive is an effective tool for generating more cyclists in Mallorca, and for promoting cycling as a whole. In this particular edition, 2100 Majorcans will depart from the starting line tomorrow morning.”
For the sixth consecutive year, Mallorca 312 – Giant – Taiwan remains committed to supporting UNICEF, in its bid to serve as a platform to bring awareness regarding the problems affecting children all over the world. The event donates part of its 8000 registration fees, as well as any voluntary donations, to this organisation. This ninth edition also remains committed to protecting the environment, with 40,000 plastic containers being eliminated thanks to the tanker trucks that will provide the participants with water and isotonic drinks.
The Mallorca 312 – Giant - Taiwan cyclosportive will commence tomorrow at 7am, with bib number 312, Joaquim Rodrigez and ex-professional cyclists Joseba Beloki and Pedro Horrillo at the starting line.
